Manchester City have reportedly identified Real Sociedad star Mikel Oyarzabal as their top target to replace Leroy Sane, who continues to be linked with a move to Bayern Munich.
According to claims from Spanish news outlet AS, Pep Guardiola has selected the 22-year-old as his first choice signing if the Premier League champions are unable to retain the services of Sane this summer.
The Germany international has long been admired by Bayern, and it seems contingency plans have been established in case he does indeed complete a move to the Allianz Arena.
Oyarzabal shone for Spain’s Under-21 side as they won the European Championships this summer, and will be available to City if they meet his €75 million release clause.
News of Guardiola’s interest in his compatriot could come as a boost to Bayern, who remain hopeful about striking a deal for Sane.
The City star played a part as his side clinched a domestic treble last season but did not start regularly, prompting suggestions that he could be on his way back to Germany to secure first-team football with the Bundesliga champions.
