Borussia Dortmund full-back Raphael Guerreiro could be headed for La Liga this summer with Barcelona keeping tabs on the player, according to Sport, via Caught Offside.
The Portuguese international has been featuring on the left wing for Dortmund of late, but with Barcelona in the market for a backup to the long-serving Jordi Alba, a move to the Spanish champions could be in the offing.
With Lucien Favre’s side recently securing the signatures of Julian Brandt and Thorgan Hazard, game time could be hard to come by for Guerreiro – potentially clearing the path for Barca to complete a €25million deal.
Guerreiro could be the perfect understudy to Alba, given his disposition to bomb forward in attack – instincts that have seen him register six assists last season for the Bundesliga runners-up.
Dortmund may be keen to cash in on the versatile Portuguese star, whose contract expires next summer.
Arriving as an attacking left-back from French side Lorient, Guerreiro was viewed as one of the most in-demand members of Portugal’s triumphant EURO 2016 campaign. A £10 million move to BVB would follow, where he has struggled somewhat to find his best position in the side.
In the meantime, Guerreiro has had the benefit of playing as Portugal’s starting left-back, most recently in the Nations League finals, where he was instrumental in helping his country win the inaugural tournament.
The versatility and attacking instincts of Guerreiro mean that the Barca hierarchy sees him as an ideal candidate to sign this summer.
With Guerreiro yet to commit his future to the German club, this could well turn into a saga that rumbles on throughout the summer transfer window.
