Liverpool are no longer interested in Werder Bremen captain Max Kruse, according to reports, cited by the Liverpool Echo.
The Reds were reportedly eyeing up the move for the forward as cover for Liverpool’s deadly front three of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino.
However, it seems that Jurgen Klopp is no longer interested in bringing the forward to Anfield this summer and will put faith into youngster Rhian Brewster as well as Champions League hero Divock Origi, who may well sign a new contract.
Origi’s impact at the end of the season was massive, scoring key goals in the league, such as his late goal against Newcastle to win them the game.
The Belgian also wrote his name in Liverpool history with his display against Barcelona in the Champions League semi-final, scoring two goals, helping them come back from three goals down.
It comes as no surprise that Klopp would love to keep the services of Origi, who has already proved that he can fill the shoes of the front free when called upon.
As for Kruse, he is out of contract and will be moving on a free transfer, the 31-year-old scored 11 goals in 32 games last season in the Bundesliga and no doubt won’t be short of interest.
Four clubs who may well attempt to sign Kruse
With Aston Villa’s recent promotion to the Premier League, they may be able to afford the front man.
With Tammy Abraham returning to Chelsea, Villa are in much need of a centre forward.
In a similar way to Liverpool, he may be just a backup striker at Old Trafford.
Another side who have recently gained promotion to the Premier League.
It is understood that Chris Wilder is unhappy with the budget that is being given to him this season and may have to dip into the market and look for free agents.
The Hammers would be keen to get some firepower in the side as Manuel Pellegrini looks to strengthen in the hope of grabbing a spot in Europe.
With forward Marko Aranutovic’s future still uncertain, could Kruse be a replacement?
