Ajax starlet Donny van de Beek lifted the league title yesterday after the Dutch giants won the Eredivisie title and today reports emerge that the youngster has been offered a new contract.
What a season it has been for the midfielder who has been an integral part of the Ajax squad that has conquered Europe this year.
Van de Beek played a huge part in the side’s Champions League campaign as they knocked out Real Madrid and Juventus in the process before being beaten by Spurs in the semi-final.
Back in the Netherlands, Ajax have been untouchable and capped off their season by winning the league in impressive style.
Due to his performances, the 22-year-old has been a target for many Europeans clubs, one of which being the German powerhouse Bayern Munich as they look to strengthen for next season.
According to the Dutch source Voetbalzone, as cited on the Daily Mail, Ajax are ready to make an improved contract offer for the youngster in order to retain his services.
Speaking to De Telegraaf, as cited on the Daily Mail, the club’s director of football Marc Overmars has stressed how important the player is to the team.
He has gone through a stormy development and for that he must be rewarded. We don’t want to lose Donny.
Van de Beek broke his silence on the topic and declares he will serve his contract.
Let it be clear that I have had a great season and I am very happy to play for Ajax. It will always remain that way.
You never know what happens, but I still have a contract. We will see it for the rest. I haven’t discussed it with anyone yet.
Van de Beek is set to be hot property this summer but Ajax will be doing everything they can to keep him especially if the player feels happy at the club.
