Borussia Dortmund star Marco Reus will miss his side’s trip to Tottenham Hotspur in the Champions League on Wednesday night, the club have confirmed.
The German international has failed to recover from a thigh injury in time for Wednesday’s fixture and will not feature at Wembley Stadium.
Lucien Favre’s side will be determined to gain the upper hand in the Champions League round of 16 tie before returning to Dortmund for the second leg of the fixture.
Reus has been in outstanding form for the Bundesliga club this season. He has scored 13 top-flight goals and has contributed with nine assists, helping them to the top of the league.
Jadon Sancho could operate in the experienced attacker’s place against Spurs as he makes a return to England with his club.
Dortmund official Sebastian Kehl delivered an update on Reus’ condition. As quoted by Sky Sports, he said:
We would of course have liked to have him in London, because his presence is a bit intimidating for the opponent. But we’ll compensate for his absence.
