Bayern Munich’s sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic has announced that no approach for former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has been made by the club, Sky Sports reports.

Bayern are set to face Werder Bremen in the Bundesliga at the weekend, with speculation rife that Wenger could soon be appointed manager of the German giants.

However, Salihamidzic has confirmed that current Bayern manager Niko Kovac will remain in place for this weekend’s league fixture.

Wenger is yet to return to management following his departure from Arsenal at the end of last season and is currently keeping is options open.

Salihamidzic spoke to Sky Germany after Bayern toppled Benfica 5-1 in their Champions League group game on Tuesday evening.

He said:

There was 100 per cent no contact with Arsene Wenger. We will travel to Bremen with Niko Kovac as our manager and we will win.

We have often failed to hold such a focused performance for the whole 90 minutes. But we have done really well [against Benfica] and we can now build on that.

The way the team took responsibility made me happy, and also how Bayern Munich played. But I am also happy for the coach and the club.
