Manchester United are said to be interested in a deal to sign Axel Witsel from Borussia Dortmund.
According to claims from ESPN, United boss Jose Mourinho remains an admirer of the midfielder’s talents and is keen to bring him to Old Trafford in the next summer transfer window.
It’s reported that the Red Devils manager wanted to sign Witsel for the club prior to the current campaign but he completed a switch to Borussia Dortmund instead.
Mourinho was understood to have specifically watched the former Zenit St Petersburg in action for Belgium in the recent international break, with the midfielder featuring in his national team’s UEFA Nations League outing against Iceland.
United have endured a difficult Premier League season so far and are currently sat in eighth place on the table.
Witsel, 29, has been in excellent form for Dortmund this term following his summer switch and remains an important player for Lucien Favre’s table-topping side.
