Jose Mourinho was reportedly keeping a close eye on Borussia Dortmund midfielder Axel Witsel during the international break.
According to Belgian outlet HLN, as cited on TEAMtalk, Mourinho was involved in a personal scouting mission as he took in games over the break.
The Manchester United boss was pictured watching the Belgium game against Iceland, resulting in speculation about who could have been on Mourinho’s radar.
It had been suggested that long-term target and Tottenham defender Toby Alderweireld was the man he had his sights on, but it now it appears that it was indeed Witsel.
The midfielder recently made a dramatic return to European football over the summer after a stint in the Chinese Super League and has been a revelation since joining Dortmund.
He has played a key part in their success this season as they look to push for the Bundesliga title under Lucien Favre with Bayern continuing to struggle.
