Bayern Munich’s Thomas Muller is backing Manchester City’s Leroy Sane to deliver on the biggest stages, despite the recent uncertainty around his future.
The pacey German winger has endured a difficult start to the season for both club and country.
Sane was left out of Pep Guardiola’s City side during the early stages of the new season, raising concerns over his long-term future in Manchester.
He was also left on the bench during Germany’s fixture in the international break, before leaving the squad early to be with his partner for the birth of their child.
Speaking to Sport Bild, Muller believes the best is yet to come from Sane, but everyone involved in with the German side has to help him to unlock his full potential.
He’s an exceptional talent with abilities that only very few people possess. I think Leroy is mature enough, and I have great confidence in him for the future. [It’s the team’s responsability] that we help him to reach his optimum level of performance with the national team.
Sane has was one of Manchester City’s star performers on their way to winning the Premier League last season, which is why his sudden struggles have come as such a surprise.
