Even though he will be returning to retirement after this season having been coaxed back into management by Bayern Munich in the Autumn, Jupp Heynckes still has a finger on the pulse of the club’s transfer dealings.
Speaking to Sport Bild about the future at Bayern and who they could target in the summer, Heynckes confirms the club are looking at Bordeaux winger Malcom as a potential summer addition. He told reporters, as cited by The Sport Review:
He’s certainly in the focus of our scouting department, like many other players as well. [Sporting director] Hasan Salihamidzic has very clear ideas and is driving forward the plans for next season.
He knows exactly who is in our sights and which players he would like to have. He has high quality players in mind.
21-year-old Malcom has netted eight goals and provided six assists in Ligue 1 this season and was strongly linked with a move to Arsenal in January but the French side rejected a £37.5m offer from the Gunners for the young Brazilian.
The Evening Standard report that Bordeaux will be looking for a figure in the region of £45m to sell the former Corinthians standout.
Bayern are in the market for a talented winger or two with both Franck Ribery and Arjen Robben set to leave the club in June when their contracts expire, but Premier League duo Arsenal and Tottenham are both also ready to revive their interest once the summer transfer window opens.
