Tottenham are intensely scouting Europe for a potential centre-back addition and the Bundesliga is currently where they are focusing their attention.
According to German media outlet Bild, Mauricio Pochettino sent scouts to watch impressive young Stuttgart defender Benjamin Pavard in action during their 3-2 win over Cologne last week.
Pavard came through the ranks at Lille but the newly-capped France international completed a £4.5m move to Stuttgart in August 2016 and has become a first-team regular in the Bundesliga.
Spurs are lining up a summer move for the defender amid growing concerns that they will be unable to keep hold of Toby Alderweireld in the coming transfer window.
Alderweireld in a contract standoff with Tottenham as his current contract is due to expire at the end of next season and Spurs are refusing to bow to his £150,000-a-week wage demands.
His uneasy situation in North London has sparked interest from a number of top European clubs as Manchester United and Chelsea both continue to monitor his situation, while Barcelona have also been linked in recent weeks, as have their La Liga rivals Real Madrid.
