Barcelona and Real Madrid will battle it out for the signature of versatile Bayern Munich defender David Alaba this summer.

Diario Gol say Alaba has been earmarked as a potential transfer target ahead of a big summer for Barcelona.

The report goes as far as to suggest Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Philippe Coutinho have all given the move the green light.

Madrid have been long-term admirers of Alaba and have failed in a move for the Austrian in the past.

The Catalan side see Alaba as a versatile option, who can provide competition across the backline and even for Sergio Busquets in midfield.

Alaba, who joined Bayern from Austria Wien in 2008 is closing in on 300 appearances for the Bavarian club in all competitions.

During his time in Germany, he has won six Bundesliga titles, four DFB-Pokal cups, three Supercups, the Champions League, the UEFA Super Cup and the FIFA Club World Cup.
