Bundesliga side RB Leipzig have joined Premier League sides Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur in the race to land the highly rated defender Manuel Akanji, according to German source Bild, cited by Inside Futbol.
Akanji, 22, has been in impressive form for FC Basel this season and has caught the eye of multiple teams across Europe, including RB Leipzig.
Leipzig are now weighing up the decision whether or not to place a formal offer for the defender, who played in both legs of Switzerland’s World Cup play-off win over Northern Ireland.
Liverpool and Tottenham are both thought to be extremely keen on the youngster, with Basel demanding a fee around €30 million for their player, who is under contract until the summer of 2021.
Leipzig are in the market to bolster their defensive options, after conceding 25 goals in their opening 17 Bundesliga fixtures, the highest amount between the top five sides in Germany.
