Dortmund have had great success bringing in young attackers to the club to develop under their tutelage, namely Ousmane Dembele and Christian Pulisic who have both made their mark in the Bundesliga and are now linked with big-money moves away.
Earlier this summer, Dortmund were one of many teams reportedly interested in signing Arsenal winger Chris Willock this summer, along with Scottish champions Celtic, Premier League giants Manchester City and Everton.
The 19-year-old winger is a free agent at the end of the month when his contract at the Emirates expires, but it seems as if Dortmund are going to lose out in the race to sign the England youth international.
According to Portuguese news outlet Record (h/t Inside Futbol), Benfica are set to win the race to sign Willock on a free transfer.
The Liga NOS side are ready to hand Willock a big role in the first-team squad next season which is playing a big role in persuading him to making the move.
While he’s yet to sign the contract, it seems as if a move to Benfica is the most likely at this stage, as opposed to a switch to Germany.
