Chelsea are reportedly lining up a move for Bayern Munich defender Javi Martinez as new boss Guus Hiddink looks to strengthen his defence ahead of the second half of the season.
The powerful Spaniard has made 17 appearances for the German champions so far this season and it is said that Blues boss Hiddink is a long-term admirer of Martinez’s talents.
The 27-year-old’s versatility is an attribute that has proved to be an attractive prospect for top clubs who are circling for a move and this is certainly the case with Chelsea.
Martinez’ experience and qualities would bring a lot to the struggling Chelsea side, but it is well documented that Bayern are reluctant to let a player of Martinez’s class leave the club unless a hefty offer comes in.
The centre-back, who can also operate just as a shield in front of the defence, has won an incredible amount of trophies during his tenure at the Allianz Arena, winning the Bundesliga on several occasions as well as the Champions League.
