Hamburger SV have completed the signing of Rangers player David Bates on a four-year contract.

He has signed a pre-contract agreement and will join the German side at the end of the season when his deal at Ibrox comes to an end.

Bates has seen limited action for Rangers since he injured his ankle in the Glasgow Derby in March.

He had joined Rangers following a successful loan spell at the club in 2016 but it now seems that his career in Scotland is over for the time being.

Bates was favoured under Graeme Murty and made 17 appearances in the first team this season prior to the injury he sustained.

Hamburg are struggling in the Bundesliga this season and they are five points away from escaping the relegation zone.
