Jonathan Tah is regarded as one of the best young centre-backs in the game today and the 22-year-old is not short of suitors.
After the Mirror confirmed that Tottenham want to bring the Germany international to the club in the summer, Spanish source El Gol Digital report that Barcelona have been tracking the former Hamburg defender for some time as they themselves weigh up a move.
Barcelona signed Yerry Mina from Palmeiras in January and the young Colombian defender has until the end of the season to prove himself as the La Liga leaders consider making further reinforcements to their back line after allowing Javier Mascherano to leave the club.
Tah recently signed a new contract with Leverkusen until 2023, but the £35m-rated defender has remained coy on his future. Speaking to Reviersport earlier this year, Tah commented on the speculation surrounding his future.
It honours me when big clubs show interest, because it’s a confirmation of my good performances.
It motivates me. It’s does me good. Let me put it this way: my goal is to turn myself into the best player I can be. And I can’t say which path I will take.
I have a valid contract here, I am happy at Leverkusen. The club’s big, but also very much like a family. I feel I am rated by fans and the leadership. And the club wants to play in the Champions League. That’s why it’s a top club for me.
German sports magazine Kicker have also reported that Borussia Dortmund will look to sign Tah from their Bundesliga rivals, while Juventus are also interested along with unnamed top-five Premier League clubs.
Having not named specific clubs, we are aware that Tottenham are interested in Tah, while both Liverpool and Chelsea have been linked with a move for the centre-back in the past. Manchester City recently signed Aymeric Laporte so they’re unlikely to spend big on another centre-back, but Manchester United are looking at defensive additions and Tah could be a player being considered.
