Showing a reluctance to sign a new contract with Schalke, midfielder Max Meyer looks destined to leave the Bundesliga club at the end of the season with Liverpool, Arsenal and AC Milan all said to be interested in the player.
Both Liverpool and Arsenal have been tracking the Germany international for a number of months but reports earlier this week suggested that Serie A side AC Milan were ready to rival the Premier League duo for Meyer’s signature.
The 22-year-old is seen as an ideal replacement for Juventus-bound Emre Can at Anfield, while Arsenal want to add to their creative midfield options following the loss of Alexis Sanchez to Manchester United last month.
It’s understood that the Premier League duo are leading the race to sign Meyer on a free transfer because they can out-muscle AC Milan when it comes to putting together a financial package for the midfielder.
Meyer has played in a deep-lying midfield two for Schalke this season but does see himself as a more attack-minded player, scoring 22 goals in 186 career appearances for the club.
