Mkhitaryan has seen minimal game time since being dropped in November, and has been linked with a move away from the club this month to help fund incoming transfers.
The newspaper says that the club is in contact with Mkhitaryan, although saying that the Armenian would have to take a pay cut from his estimated €12.5 million yearly salary to come back to the German side.
Mkhitaryan originally left Dortmund for Man Utd in July 2016 for a reported £27-30 million, signing a four-year contract with the Red Devils.
During the 2016/17 season he made 41 appearances overall, scoring 11 times. This season he has so far only scored twice across all competitions.
His record during the three seasons he spent at Borussia Dortmund was 41 goals in 140 appearances, which included 11 goals in the 2015/16 Bundesliga season.
Borussia Dortmund currently sit third in the Bundesliga behind Schalke 04 and Bayern Munich. Two points separate second from sixth at this stage in the season.
