Leon Goretzka has become one of the most sought-after midfielders in European football over the last 12 months courtesy of his impressive performances for club and country, but Schalke are determined to keep him at the club for the foreseeable future.

The 22-year-old has been linked with a number of top European clubs in recent weeks and months and it’s believed that he will leave either in January or next summer when his contract with the Bundesliga club expires.

Schalke are desperate to keep him at the club and are planning to offer him a bumper new contract that would make him the highest-paid player in the club’s history in order to convince him to stay at the club.

Goretzka played a starring role for Germany in the summer, helping them win the Confederations Cup and has since been linked with moves to the likes of Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United, Manchester City, Juventus, Barcelona and Bayern Munich.
