Leon Goretzka’s time at Schalke seems almost certainly like it’s coming to an end.
The Germany international scored three goals at the Confederations Cup in the summer and has emerged on the radar of some of Europe’s top clubs including Liverpool, Arsenal, Manchester United and Juventus.
Schalke are determined to keep hold of the midfielder and turned down interest in him in the summer transfer window but the 22-year-old becomes a free agent at the end of the season when his contract expires.
That means he is free to hold pre-contract talks with interested clubs from January onwards, which could result in Schalke losing him for free next summer.
Alternatively, the could cash in on him in the January transfer window with the club admitting they’ve done all they can to keep him at the club and they can’t do anything else to convince him to stay.
Along with the likes of Liverpool, Arsenal, Manchester United and Juventus chasing Goretzka, Barcelona and Bayern Munich have both been heavily linked in recent months.
