Bayern Munich have confirmed that Jupp Heynckes will take over as head coach until the end of the season.

Heynckes returns to the club that he left in 2013 to take over from Carlo Ancelotti, who lost his job with the Bavarian club after a poor start to the season.

The 72-year-old has enjoyed great success at the club in the past, he guided Bayern to a treble before stepping down in 2013, paving the way for Pep Guardiola to take over.

Reports had suggested that Bayern would look to replace Ancelotti with Julian Naglesmann at the end of the season, but their hand was forced through the decision to part company with the Italian early, although Naglesmann remains the favourite to take the job at the end of the season.
