Barcelona have moved on from their pursuit of Liverpool star Philippe Coutinho this summer and are eyeing a move for one of the Buindesliga’s best young midfielders.
According to the Mirror, Barcelona had eyes on Schalke’s Leon Goretzka during their 2-0 win over Red Bull Leipzig last week ahead of a late summer swoop for the German.
Valued at around £21m, Goretzka was impressive for Germany during the Confederations Cup earlier this summer and has also been linked with moves to the likes of Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester City and Real Madrid by German source Bild.
The 22-year-old’s contract expires next summer and it’s likely that if he does not leave Schalke this summer then he will leave on a free in a year’s time, with Bayern Munich among those eager to snap him up.
Barcelona still want to add to their midfield despite signing Paulinho earlier this month and Goretzka, and Leipzig star Naby Keita, are on their shortlist with just over a week to go of the transfer window.
