Borussia Dortmund and Premier League side Newcastle United are both interested in signing former Bayern Munich goalkeeper, Lukas Raeder, according to the Mail Online.

Raeder, who is currently a free agent, was on trial at Southampton but a deal between the two parties fell through, meaning Newcastle and Dortmund stepped up their interest.

The German only made three appearances for Bayern Munich after joining from Schalke’s under 19’s in 2012 for a free transfer.

Cruciate ligament surgery kept him out of the Bayern squad, which led him to leave the German giants in 2014 and he joined Vitoria Setubal for £150,000.

In his three years in Portugal, he made 32 appearances, conceding 57, only keeping eight clean sheets and he has now been released by the club.

Despite his Bayern Munich career lacking appearances, he won a lot whilst there including two Bundesliga’s, one Champions League and one FIFA Club World Cup.

With the 6ft 5in goalkeeper still being 23, he can play for under 23 sides for this season so one of these clubs may bring him in for the development team, which could allow him to get his career back on track.
