German international and Borussia Dortmund midfielder Mario Gotze has been ruled out for the rest of the season as the 24-year-old recovers from a ‘metabolic disorder.’

Goats, who rejoined Dortmund in the summer from Bayern Munich, has been limited to nine Bundesliga starts because of a muscular problem throughout the season.

However, the German international, who scored the winner for Germany in the 2014 World Cup final, is currently on a rehabilitation programme and could be training by early summer, but it all depends on how the 24-year-old responds to treatment, the Bundesliga club has confirmed.

The midfielder made 83 appearances for Dortmund before making the move to Bayern Munich in 2013, scoring 22 goals. However, he struggled for first-team football at Bayern Munich and rejoined Dortmund for a fee of £18m.

In a statement about Mario Gotze, the German side said, “The long-term plan for the player is to be fully fit and ready to play at the start of next-season.”
