Liverpool struggled mightily throughout January without Sadio Mane on the wing, lacking that pacey outlet who had an eye for goal.

Jurgen Klopp recognises that he needs another Mane-like attacker who Liverpool can rely on and he’s made Bayer Leverkusen’s Julian Brandt his top summer target, say the Daily Mail.

Brandt was a player Klopp was desperate to land during the January transfer window, only for Leverkusen to given them a resounding ‘no’ when an approach was made.

Leverkusen could face a struggle to keep hold of the former Germany U21 international in the summer with the club underperforming and look likely to miss out on European football for next season, not to mention reported interest from Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich.

The 20-year-old was signed in January 2014 from the Wolfsburg academy and was an instant hit with Leverkusen. Able to play across the forward line, Brandt has been a constant contributor, scoring 19 goals and tallying 22 assists in 118 career appearances for Leverkusen to date.

His form has not gone unnoticed by Joachim Low who handed the winger four international caps in 2016.
