Manchester United are lining up a move to bring Bayer Leverkusen defender Omer Toprak to Old Trafford in the summer, according to German publication Kicker.
The 26-year-old Turkish international has had injury issues this season which have limited him to just 14 appearances in the Bundesliga this season, but that doesn’t seem to have put off United who have been scouting him throughout the campaign.
Toprak, who can also play as a holding midfielder as well as his regular position at centre-back, is under contract with Leverkusen until the end of the 2018 season and would likely cost Man United £10million if they wish to bring him to the Premier League.
Toprak actually played youth football for Germany but made the switch to play for Turkey when Guus Hiddink asked him to play for his side in the qualifying campaign for Euro 2012.
Manchester United’s problems at centre-back have been clear for all to see, so it makes sense that they are looking to add depth to that part of their squad and Toprak might be the man to benefit.
