Hamburg are set to compete with Liverpool for the signing of Nevan Subotic from Borussia Dortmund.
The defender has had a tough time regaining his place in the Dortmund squad, as Thomas Tuchel has regularly favoured Sokratis in the centre back spot next to the ever-present Mats Hummels.
The 27-year-old has had an injury-hit season so far too, which hasn’t helped his cause.
The player is known very well by Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp and an obvious destination for Subotic would be to Merseyside to link up with his former manager.
Hamburg have now emerged as serious contenders to sign the Serbian, however.
BILD are reporting that his services could be acquired for as little as £3.8m, a bargain for any club should they be able to keep him fit.
Hamburg sporting director Peter Knabel has openly offered the centre-back regular, first-team football. He said:
We have looked into this matter in the winter. Subotic is one of the most prominent players on our radar.
Whether Tuchel and Dortmund allow a key reserve player to leave in the hunt for regular playing time remains to be seen, but Liverpool clearly have a rival for his signature this summer – should they follow up their interest.
