According to Diario SPORT, Carlo Ancelotti has asked Bayern Munich chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge for the signings of Real Madrid’s Karim Benzema and James Rodriguez.
There have been reports that Ancelotti, who will replace Pep Guardiola as Bayern’s head coach, will want to refresh his squad, especially with the potential departure of top scorer Robert Lewandowski to Real Madrid.
Ancelotti, 59, will replace Guardiola in the summer as the Spaniard switches to Manchester City. The Italian will sign a three-year contract starting July 1st.
Ancelotti worked closely with both James and Benzema during his stint in La Liga, with the Italian overseeing the Colombian international’s first season in Spain and also getting the most of Karim Benzema alongside Gareth Bale and Cristiano Ronaldo in a season that saw Los Blancos lift up their tenth Champions League.
Bayern Munich’s side are ageing with the likes of Franck Ribery and Arjen Robben into their 30’s, this leaves Ancelotti with the task of trying to help Bayern compete with the European big guns and he believes acquiring James Rodriguez and Benzema will be a good start.
