FSV Mainz’s striker Yoshinori Muto will not leave in the winter, Martin Schmidt has announced to Kicker.
In the last fortnight, Manchester United have reportedly been ‘closing in’ on the Japanese international’s signature.
However, it was announced today that the 23-year-old will not be leaving the Coface Arena.
The Sunday People originally reported that the Red Devils were close to signing the striker. But, head coach Martin Schmidt has nipped the speculation in the bud, claiming that not only will Muto be staying, but also Yunus Malli who has been linked with Thomas Tuchel’s Borussia Dortmund.
Muto, 23, has impressed in the Bundesliga this season scoring seven in the first half of the Bundesliga.
He featured as a second-half substitute but failed to make an impact in Mainz’s 1-0 defeat to FC Ingolstadt.
The 05ers are currently eighth in the Bundesliga and will be hoping to end their shaky start to 2016 as they host Borussia Mönchengladbach on Friday.
